My Ethan

I knew it was coming. My son is in the Army and we're at war. But it's still hard to hear the words.
In less than a month, my oldest son will be on his way to Afghanistan. Words just can't express the mixed emotions that I'm feeling right now.
I miss him so much. I try not to think about the danger he's walking in to. But the biggest surprise emotion? I'm proud. So proud right now.

  2. Oh, WOW. I cannot even imagine the gamut of emotions you are feeling right now. My eyes welled up with tears and my throat closed just reading this blog. He will continue to be in our prayers. I can't believe just a year ago he was rehearsing to be a cockroach in a VBS play and now he is on his way to Afghanistan. Darn right you should be proud!! I'm proud for simply knowing him...You raised this amazing young man and now he (and you!) are making a huge sacrifice for our freedom. I love you and your family. Tell your boy we are all SO PROUD of him. (And I need a picture of him to put up on my fridge!) Love you friend...Alicia

  4. I know, right. The pride you feel as you watch this little boy become a faithful, independent man, willing to sacrafice for a nation of people he doesn't even know is over whelming to a mom. I told Cam no mom looks at her little boy and says "I hope he grows up to be a solider" but we do look at them and say "I want you to be a man of God, faithful and happy." And Im proud to say that that is what our boys are doing. I love how Ethan love his family. When he writes to me it is always with a thought towards you and his brothers. He loves you guys so much and you have given him the ability to go out and do what he does. He is smart and brave and I know he will keep himself safe. My heart felt prayers go to you and him as I know it is only a matter of time when I find myself in the same position. I hope I can handle the news with as much strength and grace as you have shown.
    Love to you,
    Lynette

  5. Your Aunt Penny is proud too Ethan! Sometimes we do not want to believe God has us in a place "such as this" at just the right time. I am thankful our God goes before you each step of the way.
It is amazing what we feel as mothers when our sons become men and our pride can swell. Are there words for this? I am not sure, I just know the feeling is awesome! I love being the mother of a great son too Jenna!
