30 THINGS IN 30 DAYS - DAY 11

Today I'm sharing a story. Well, I guess it's more like sharing 'my' story about 'a' story. :) This idea was inspired by Donald Miller.

A couple of years ago I met this guy named John. He seemed nice and I learned a few things about him. I remember that he was some sort of soldier, and he had a few kids and he traveled. I also remember praying for him because he was going somewhere dangerous. A couple of weeks ago, I bumped into John again online. I noticed some incredible pictures on his profile page and I was blown away. I started asking him questions, and he was nice enough to tell me some stories. And suddenly I found myself caught up in the people of Kurdistan. I was struck by their beauty and the depth of their tragedy. You could see John's heart in every image and I realized that I was pretty blessed to have stumbled upon him. I met him two years ago, but I didn't ask the right questions. John has some unbelievable and amazing stories, and now I'm privileged to have heard some of them. But my point is, you don't know someone's story until you ask for it. So go ask for it. Ask for someone's story and see what happens.
This part I'm super excited about: John has given me permission to share his photographs. I wish I had time and space to give you the background on each of them. There truly is a story behind each picture. But they're so good, they really speak for themselves. So take a minute and be quiet. See Kurdistan through John's eyes.
