SCRIPT FRENZY DAY 17

I'm up early to work on my script, but also spent some time this morning thinking about Palm Sunday. This is the day that people around the world celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus into to the city of Jerusalem. This is the start of what is known as 'Holy Week'. Jesus entered the city on a donkey (I've read that in those days when a King entered a city on a horse it was a show of strength, and when he entered on a donkey it was a sign of peace) and people gathered on the sides of the roads cheering for him. They put their cloaks and palm branches on the ground for the donkey to walk on. I'm sure it was an amazing sight.
But by the end of the week, Jesus would be crucified.
And since I've been so saturated with analyzing 'story' for the last month, even analyzing the story of my own life, I can't help but think about where this scene fits into the story of Christ's life.
Maybe it's a 'midpoint', which in storytelling is known to be a high point before everything falls apart. I'm sure the disciples were thinking that Jesus was finally getting the kind of attention they were after. He was being celebrated. The crowds loved him. The same crowds that cheered  "Hosanna!" would be the same voices that shouted "Crucify Him!" just days later.  And Jesus knew it. Over and over he warned his friends of the things to come.
And yet, willingly he rode into that city. He knew what was coming. It defied human understanding, logic and common sense.
For me, the story of Jesus is the most compelling story every told. And it's personal. And it never gets old.


Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Blessed is the King of Israel!
