ARMY MOM

Even though I'm a blogger, I'm not used to completely opening up my personal life online. I think it's usually a bad idea.
But today I'm going to be real with you.
The past few months have been hard for our family.
As many of you know, I've been a United States 'Army Mom' for the past few years. Evan served in Afganistan last year, and Ethan is there right now.
But today there has been a change. Evan is once again a civilian. He was honorably discharged from the Army this afternoon. As I write this, he is traveling home to Oregon.
Today we have had many comments and questions about this situation. I know it's human nature to speculate and be curious and to want details. I know that most people aren't out to hurt us when they ask questions or post things online about our family. I know sometimes it's easier to 'ask around' rather than to ask the person. I know sometimes it's easy to judge a situation when you hear a couple of facts.
But I'll be honest. I'm struggling today.
I guess I'm just asking for a little space here.
Please give our family and Evan some time and space to process and readjust. Please don't gossip. Please don't make flippant comments. If you have a question, please contact one of us directly, preferrably Evan.
I'm very, very proud of my son. He has served his country, he has been honorably discharged and now he is coming home. I support every soldier and vet out there who has sacrificed so much, and I support my son.
Evan is coming home. I can't wait to see his face and hear his laugh. He is an amazing guy.
I'm still an Army Mom.
And this Army Mom is asking you to play it cool and respect my son and our family.
For the majority of you-Thank you for supporting us and loving us and just being all around awesome. Thanks for running interference for us. Thanks for supporting our Military.
And thanks for reading.

  1. I just love you so much... glad you're getting your boy back... it's so so so hard when we judge, make assumptions or question motives... I don't think we realize the depth of the pain it causes... I'm on the receiving end today too friend... stay strong... big big hugs!

  3. Great post Jenna! I love reading them - makes me feel close to the Benton family once again! I think you said this so, so well. Gossip is so destructive! I just want to say, thank you Evan & Ethan for serving our country for any amount of time. Evan, may God richly bless you on whatever new chapter/adventure in life that you take - there will be many!
